SP MP Nadvi Warns: Without Consultation, Waqf Board Act Amendments Could Face Fate Similar to Agricultural Laws
The Modi government may introduce a major amendment to the Waqf Board Act. The government could present the Waqf Board Amendment Bill in Parliament this week. The central government aims to curb the Waqf Board's power to declare any property as "Waqf property." Political debate has now started on this issue.
Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi said, "I don't have much information about this bill yet, but the government often takes many steps in haste, which sends a negative message about the country's composite culture. The scholars and the Waqf Board's electoral college, who are affected by this law, should at least be consulted. Otherwise, just like the farm laws were introduced without consulting farmers, leading to their prolonged dissatisfaction, the same will happen here."
