Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra started her career as a lawmaker on Thursday when she took the oath of office as a member of the Lok Sabha.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Ms. Vadra was elected from the Wayanad seat in Kerala, which her brother, Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, had left empty while keeping Rae Bareli. The 52-year-old MP took the oath in Hindi while clutching a red and black copy of the Constitution, which Mr. Gandhi has been showing off at his public gatherings. He was dressed in a cream and gold Kasavu (traditional Kerala) saree.
