PhonePe Collaborates With LankaPay To Enable Payments Using UPI Across Sri Lanka | ABP News
India's fintech major PhonePe has teamed up with LankaPay to enable its users to make payments using UPI across Sri Lanka. Announcing the partnership at a mega event organised in Colombo, PhonePe said that its app users travelling to Sri Lanka will be able to make payments using UPI across LankaPay QR merchants. The transactions will be facilitated by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and LankaPay National Payment Network. Users can scan LankaPay QR code to make secure and quick payments without carrying cash or calculating currency conversions. The amount will be debited in INR, showing the currency exchange rate. As per PhonePe, Sri Lanka provides a good opportunity for the company as a large number of Indian tourists travel to the island nation. "From Sri Lanka standpoint perspective if you see, Indian tourists form the highest percentage of tourists that actually come to Sri Lanka which is almost 15 per cent of their total tourism population, right and post COVID we have seen a dramatic uptake as far as Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka is concerned. That has actually gone up two and a half times, right. And this year the Sri Lanka Tourism Board is expecting at least six lakh Indian tourists to visit this island nation," Says RITESH PAI, CEO, International Payments, PhonePe.
