People in Udham Singh Nagar face water shortage due to non-operational tube wells
People in the Jaspur area of Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district are facing shortage of water this summer season, with tube wells in the area being non operational."There are 10 to 20 taps (tube wells) all of which are not functional. I complained to the block office and went to Dehradun about it, but no one took any action. People who travel by road come here, but there is no water, so they leave. There are many problems, but nobody is listening," says Local Resident. As per the district administration concerned, departments have been directed to check the tube wells and provide proper water supply. "It came to our notice that there are some hand pumps in Patrampur village, Badiowala, Nizamgarh village which are not working. The concerned departments have been directed to check the hand pumps there and make whatever efforts that are required to repair them immediately, because at this time there is severe heat. A disaster meeting was called by Chief Minister and the District Magistrate, in which all the departments were directed that no compromise will be made regarding water, and whatever action is to be taken should be done immediately," says Sub-District Magistrate, Jaspur. People in the area are hopeful that the local administration will move into action and ensure the proper functioning of the tube wells during the peak summer months.
