Opposition Stirs Up Chaos Over Adani Issue, Parliament Proceedings Adjourned Till Noon
The Winter Session of Parliament began on Monday (November 25, 2024). This session, which will run until December 20, will see the introduction of five new bills, while 11 other bills, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, have been listed for discussion. The government is attempting to get these bills passed during the session, but the opposition is aggressive on certain issues, and the entire session is expected to be tumultuous. The first day itself saw a preview of the potential disruptions when Congress and the Samajwadi Party created a ruckus over the Adani and Sambhal issues. Following this, the proceedings were adjourned until the next day. The session will resume on Wednesday, November 27. A day before the Winter Session began, on Sunday (November 24, 2024), an all-party meeting was convened. During this meeting, Congress demanded discussions in both Houses regarding the Adani Group bribery case and the Manipur violence issue. Opposition parties are seeking answers from the government on both matters. Here, we highlight some of the issues that could keep the Winter Session of Parliament highly contentious.
