Maharashtra Election 2024: Key Meeting Before MVA Candidate List, Uddhav to Meet Balasaheb Thorat
The Mahavikas Aghadi is still grappling with the complexities of seat-sharing arrangements. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat has been entrusted with resolving the seat-sharing issue, following a dispute between Nana Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. The Congress leadership decided to appoint Thorat to facilitate discussions. After receiving this new responsibility, Thorat visited Sharad Pawar's residence today (Tuesday) for a lengthy discussion regarding seat-sharing. He mentioned that he would also meet with Uddhav Thackeray, clarifying that there are no differences between them. In response to a question, Thorat stated that he was not sent to replace Nana Patole; rather, he came for consensus-building discussions. In parallel, Congress has claimed that it has finalized candidates for 96 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. Discussions on the remaining seats will continue on Tuesday. These 96 seats are expected to be included in the final MVA list of candidates. Nana Patole reiterated that there are no disagreements within the MVA regarding seat-sharing. He accused the BJP of deliberately spreading misinformation about the opposition parties, asserting that they would face a significant defeat in the Assembly elections. He emphasized that the entire MVA is united and working together to uproot the Mahayuti. Balasaheb Thorat is set to meet with Uddhav Thackeray today, as Sanjay Raut commented on ongoing discussions regarding seat-sharing with Congress. He stated that while there are some differences on a few seats, they would be resolved soon. There are expectations that the seat distribution could be finalized by tonight. Additionally, Raut dismissed reports about a purported meeting between Devendra Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that the BJP has orchestrated such rumors out of fear. He stated that their fight is against those who exploit Maharashtra, emphasizing that it is absurd to associate their name with those who plunder the state.
