Lok Sabha Speaker Election: TMC To Support INDIA Bloc Over K Suresh's Candidature | ABP News

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced on Wednesday that it would support the INDIA bloc candidate and Congress MP K Suresh in the election for the position of Lok Sabha Speaker. Suresh will be contesting against the NDA candidate Om Birla.

This election follows unsuccessful negotiations between the government and the Opposition to elect a speaker. Om Birla, who served as the speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha, has been nominated again by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Earlier in the day, K Suresh said that the INDIA bloc is still ready to withdraw its candidature. The Congress MP said that according to him, the ruling NDA is not going to make any offers before the election because they sought support for the Speaker post and were willing to hold discussions for the deputy Speaker post later.
