Kolkata Doctor Case: Nationwide Protest Continues Post Rape & Murder In R.G. Kar Medical College

Protests against the brutal assault and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital have been ongoing for over a week, disrupting healthcare services. Doctors across major cities, including Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh, are demanding better safety measures and justice for the victim. The R.G. Kar Medical College remains the epicenter of these protests. On Sunday night, hundreds of women in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal took to the streets in a ‘Reclaim the Night’ campaign, demanding justice for the victim. Women of all ages and backgrounds gathered in various locations across the city, including Jadavpur, Garia, Behala Parnasree, Khanna, and Lake Town, chanting "We want justice." Some protestors carried burning torches. A similar protest was held on August 14. The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on Tuesday, August 20. The CBI is preparing for a polygraph test of the accused to uncover the truth behind the crime. The accused’s mother-in-law has called for his execution, revealing his history of cruelty towards her daughter. Political tensions are also high over the Kolkata rape-murder case. TMC has responded to Congress leaders who demanded action. Several political leaders, including BJP’s Locket Chatterjee and TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, have received notices for their social media posts about R.G. Kar Medical College. All updates on the Kolkata rape-murder case and the doctors' protests can be found in the cards below.
