A landslide occurred in Wayanad district of Kerala following heavy rainfall, with fears that hundreds of people may be trapped. The incident took place early Tuesday morning (July 30) in the areas of Meppadi, Mundakkai Town, and Chooral Mala. Local media reports indicate that the landslide has led to the death of 12 people, but the district administration has confirmed that four people have died, including one child. Around 50 people who were injured in the landslide have been hospitalized. The first landslide occurred in Mundakkai Town around 1 AM during the heavy rains. While rescue operations were ongoing in Mundakkai, a second landslide struck near a school in Chooral Mala around 4 AM. The landslide caused water and mud to flood the school, which was operating as a relief camp, as well as nearby homes and shops. Rescue operations are currently underway.
