Independence Day 2024: 'Extended Maternity Leave For Women From 12 Weeks To 26 Weeks' Says PM Modi

With slogans like "Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hai zor kitna, baju-e-qatil mein hai," and many other passionate chants and songs, the brave sons of Mother India fought against British rule and sacrificed their lives for freedom. It was through these sacrifices that we gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of India's 78th Independence Day, PM Modi said that the dreams of the people had not been fulfilled. When we were given responsibility, we made significant reforms. We chose reform for change. We do not reform for applause. We reform not out of compulsion but to strengthen the nation. We do not carry out reforms for politics. Our sole objective is "Nation First," meaning the nation's interests are supreme. Every step we take is with the resolve to make India great. In his address, PM Modi also mentioned the violence in Bangladesh. He stated that it is natural for India, as a neighboring country, to be concerned about what happened in Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the situation there would return to normal soon. He emphasized that the people of India want the safety of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh to be ensured. India has always desired that its neighboring countries follow the path of peace and prosperity. He reaffirmed India's commitment to peace and expressed that India's goodwill will continue to accompany Bangladesh on its journey of development in the coming days, as India cares about the well-being of all humanity. PM Modi also expressed his condolences to those who lost their families, property, and national resources due to natural disasters this year and in recent years. He assured them that the nation stands with them in this time of crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to remember the days before independence. He spoke of the hundreds of years of slavery and the constant struggle, whether by women, youth, or tribal communities, who fought against oppression. He reminded the nation of the numerous tribal regions that fought for freedom even before the 1857 War of Independence. The freedom struggle was long, marked by immense suffering and cruel tactics by oppressive rulers to break the spirit of ordinary people. Yet, the 40 crore Indians of that time showed unparalleled determination and strength, driven by a single dream: "Vande Mataram" and the nation's freedom. He expressed pride in being descendants of those freedom fighters who overthrew one of the world's greatest powers. He emphasized that if 40 crore people could break the chains of slavery and achieve independence, then today, with 140 crore citizens, we can achieve anything. If we, as a nation, set out with determination, walk in a unified direction, and stand shoulder to shoulder, no challenge, no shortage of resources, can stop us from achieving prosperity. We can build a developed India by 2047.
