Fuel Prices: Opposition attacks Centre over petrol, diesel rates HIKE | Matrabhumi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged these states to lower VAT and engage "in the spirit of cooperative federalism" in this "time of global crisis" by bringing up the problem of high fuel prices in Opposition-ruled states that have refused to heed the Centre's appeal to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel. These states were doing them a "injustice" and damaging neighbouring states by not passing on advantages to the people, he claimed. Last November, the Prime Minister stated, a request to cut VAT was made, but states such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Jharkhand "for some reason" did not comply.
