Farmer's Protest: SC Asks Haryana Govt To Open Shambhu Border | ABP News
The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Haryana government to remove barricades at the Shambhu border near Ambala, where farmers have been protesting since February 13. The court questioned the state's authority to block the national highway. The barricades were set up in February to prevent farmers from marching to Delhi in support of their demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops. The Haryana government is appealing the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order to open the highway within seven days. The Supreme Court bench comprised Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan.
"How can a State block a highway? It has a duty to regulate traffic. We are saying open it but regulate," Justice Bhuyan said after the counsel informed the bench about filing of the appeal in the apex court.
