In Kerala, some miscreants fed a pregnant elephant with a pineapple filled with crackers. It exploded in the  mouth of the animal and the elephant died along with her foetus. Kerala has a 90 percent literacy rate, but it seems education does not guarantee humaneness. India has a law against cruelty to animals but still every year many elephants die.
