With entire country placed under lockdown leaving labourers and daily wagers will no food and money, several government and non-government organisations have come forward to extend helping hands to those in dire need.

New Delhi: Even as India's remains to be slow in terms of Coronavirus outbreak compared to other countries like United States, Russia, Brazil, Spain and others, rural parts of the country has taken a gradual hit due to the medical pandemic. With lack of medical facilities, slow economy and the imposed lockdown in place, rural India is finding it very hard to combat with the contagious virus. Even the turnout of vast numbers of migrant labourers in large cities like Delhi, Mumbai and others to head back in panic to their village homes, hundreds of miles away, on foot with their children, became a saga of human suffering by the time the Central government took cognisance of it. With entire country placed under lockdown leaving labourers and daily wagers will no food and money, several government and non-government organisations have come forward to extend helping hands to those in dire need. While some organisations are providing food in places where people are stranded, others are distributing free mask and medical supplies to them. One such organisation is Asif Kamal Foundation - that aims to work in rural India in the field of healthcare and education. Started by businessman Asif Kamal, the organisation is working towards the betterment of underprivileged and poor people from rural India. Speaking about his initiative, Asif said that he believes in the fact that empowering rural India will empower real India. After observing the situation of various districts of Bihar (his hometown), Asif said that his team is now working day and night to build affordable schools and healthcare unit for poor and underprivileged people of rural India. During this lockdown, Asif Kamal Foundation is actively helping migrant labour from Bihar and distributing ration and other essentials to the people stranded in Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra and other states. The organisation helps people in arranging movement passes for them to go home, assist them financially to arrange food and other essential items. The organisation is also leveraging technology to make sure they reach to the needy people. They have issued a WhatsApp help support number and have created WhatsApp group of all the nearly 40 elected Pardhan, 450 elected Ward members and 4 Jila Parishad. The team has made phone calls to each of them and informed them to reach out to the needy people and provide them with the list of people who need any kind of help at this point in time. The foundation is reaching out to each and everyone in the villages via their volunteers and via social media and this initiative and helping them in whatever ways possible at this time.
