WATCH | RPF Officer Saves Life Of Elderly Woman Seconds Before Disaster, Netizens Laud 'Act Of Bravery'

Seconds before a train was rushing past, an RPF officer pulls up an elderly woman who was crossing the railway tracks. Railway Ministry advises using the foot-over bridge.

New Delhi: A quick action by an RPF personnel saved an elderly woman's life in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur. In the video shared by the Ministry of Railways, the RPF officer and another man are seen directing the woman who is crossing the tracks out of frame to go back. However, despite their direction, she crosses the track but couldn't climb to the platform fast enough. RPF personnel quickly pulls her up, seconds before the train runs past them.

A crowd gathers around them to check if the elderly woman is okay. 

The Railway Ministry shared the video on Twitter directing people to use the foot-over bridge. "The woman's life was saved by the vigilance and promptness of the RPF personnel! An elderly woman crossing the track at Lalitpur station of Jhansi division was saved by the railway security personnel posted there by playing on her life. All are requested to use Foot Over Bridge to go from one platform to another", the tweet in Hindi.

The video has been viewed over 86.9k times, with users lauding the personnel for his quick action and act of bravery. 

A Twitter user wrote, "Sir, Thrilling moment. RPF man with lightning speed saved the elderly woman. He should be rewarded suitably. Frequent announcements must be given to passengers to use the footpaths. But aged people couldn't able to climb the steps. Kindly fit 'Escalators' in all major stations."

One user wrote, "A split-second delay would have resulted in disaster. Salute to the gallant on-duty RPF personnel who saved the woman even though barefoot."

A user suggested, "Maybe a study to identify such zone and see if we can ring-fence it. Ideally, the railway should allocate some cost towards passenger safety and see how can we improve it."

Meanwhile another user, "It's true that people should use foot over bridge. But sometimes it becomes difficult to climb the stairs without any escalators or lifts. Especially with luggage."
