Hyderabad: A public representative belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was brutally hacked to death in daylight in Mahabubabad town on Thursday, police said.

According to ABP Desam, Banoth Ravi, a councillor in Mahabubabad municipality 8th ward, was beaten by unidentified assailants to death with axes while riding a bike to Pattipaka colony from work at about noon. Ravi, who is well known among the people, won the municipal elections independently and joined the TRS party.

The assailants had reportedly rammed his two-wheeler with a tractor from the rear side to throw him off the vehicle. Later, three others, who followed the tractor in a car behind, jumped out of the vehicle and attacked him indiscriminately with axes before fleeing. Some passersby had informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted him to the local government area, where he succumbed to the injuries soon after his admission, a Telangana Today report said.

"We have already identified two accused. As per the preliminary inquiry, personal and old rivalry related to some business transactions between the accused and the deceased led to the incident. Let me clarify that there was no political angle in this case," Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar stated, as quoted by Telangana Today.

He further stated that four teams had been formed under the direction of ASP Yogesh Gautham and said the suspects would be apprehended shortly.
