Hyderabad: The highest electricity demand of 14,117 MW was recorded in the history of Telangana on Tuesday. Telangana is the second-largest consumer of electricity in South India after Tamil Nadu.


According to electricity officials, the highest demand in power consumption since Telangana's establishment has occurred on Tuesday. Electricity consumption at irrigation projects is rising, and power consumption in the state increased due to high temperatures. Commercial and domestic power consumption is expected to increase significantly, said officials.


The highest power consumption was recorded at 13,688 MW on March 31, 2021, while the record demand was 14,117 MW this year. According to electricity officials, Greater Hyderabad's power usage has increased dramatically. Hyderabad used 55 million units of electricity last year, up from 65 million units in March of this year.

Electricity officials stated that they would be able to meet demand even if it reached 15,000 megawatts in the summer.


Officials said, Per capita electricity consumption increased by 11.34 per cent. With a per capita electricity consumption of over a thousand units per annum, Telangana has the highest growth rate of 10 per cent and ranks first among the states. The per capita electricity consumption in Telangana was 1,727 units in 2017-18 and reached 1,896 units by 2018-19.
