Hyderabad: Telangana minister KT Rama Rao distributed handloom sarees to anganwadi and ASHA workers at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday.
The move aims to promote handloom sarees in the state and provide more jobs to employees.
KTR, the Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries & Commerce, and Information Technology, also distributed jute bags made by transgender people among the workers.
He was accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod and Child Welfare Commissioner Divya Deva Rajan.
Handloom sarees will be given to 67,411 anganwadi teachers and ayas at 31,711 main anganwadi centres and 3,989 mini anganwadi centres in the state.
KTR said that the state government had already revised the salaries of anganwadi teachers and ayas three times, and increased the Pay Revision Commission by 30 per cent. The minister said the state government had launched the programme to promote handloom and more work for weavers.
He also congratulated the transgender people who made the handbags.
