Hyderabad: The Nampally Sessions Court in Hyderabad sentenced a 25-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case involving the possession and interstate transportation of 1,427 kilograms of ganja in the truck he drove.


Acting on specific intelligence, Two years ago, in August 2020, the police intercepted a truck bearing the number UP21CN0853 at the Patangi toll gate on Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway.


The truck contained 1,427 kg of marijuana. The driver, Nadeem, 25, was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Authorities said the value of cannabis was more than Rs 3.56 crore. DRI Hyderabad division officials were informed while cannabis was being transported from East Godavari to Uttar Pradesh in a heavy truck.


A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The next day (August 21, 2020), after completion of the investigation, DRI officials filed a complaint against the accused and was produced before the Metropolitan Sessions Court in Nampally. Chargesheet filed under NDPS Act – 1985. 


On Tuesday, a judge in Nampally metropolitan sessions court found the peddler, Nadeem guilty of offences under provisions of the NDPS Act and sentenced him to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rs 1 lakh under section 235(2) of the CrPC.
