Telangana High Court Serves Notices On KCR Govt, BRS On PIL Challenging Land Allotment To Party

The Forum for Good Governance (FGG), a voluntary organisation, filed the PIL challenging the land allotment to the BRS.

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the state government and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the allotment of 11 acres of government land in a prime area in Hyderabad to the ruling party, IANS reported.

The petition sought a direction to stay the allotment of government land at Kokapet, located in Rangareddy district, to the ruling party. The court has asked both the state government and the ruling party to file their affidavits. The hearing has been adjourned to August 16.

The Forum for Good Governance (FGG), a voluntary organisation, filed the PIL challenging the land allotment to the BRS. The FGG argued that while the market value of one acre of the land is approximately Rs 50 crore, the government allotted it to the BRS for only Rs 3.41 crore.

FGG secretary M Padmanabha Reddy has requested the HC to issue a direction to the BRS not to undertake any construction on the allotted land until the matter was adjudicated.

The petitioner argued that the circular issued by the state government, which alienates 11 acres of prime land to the BRS, should be set aside and declared arbitrary. The FGG claimed that the government has been handling the issue secretly as relevant orders have not been uploaded to the government website.

The NGO stated that it faced difficulty obtaining a copy of the circular pertaining to land alienation.

According to the circular, the BRS approached the government with a proposal to establish an Institute for Excellence and Human Resource Development and sought land for it.

The political party claimed it would train public leaders and activists through the centre. The FGG contended that there were excellent training centres like the Marri Chenna Reddy Institute of Human Resources Development, the National Institute of Rural Development, and the State Institute of Rural Development in Hyderabad.

Given this context, the BRS party’s request for the allotment of prime land to develop a similar institute was not justified.

However, BRS President and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the Centre for Excellence and Human Resource Development, known as Bharat Bhavan, on the allotted land on June 5.

KCR stated that the centre will provide training to party leaders and invited experienced political scientists, economists, sociologists, writers, professors, retired officials, and others from across the country to contribute to the development of society in political, social, and economic fields.

He announced that the centre will have training classrooms, mini halls with projectors, spacious meeting halls, digital libraries with the latest technology, and luxury rooms for accommodation. KCR also mentioned that newspapers from both the country and abroad, as well as works and books by world intellectuals in political, social, and philosophical fields, will be made available at the centre.
