The Telangana government has announced special casual leave for all its women employees on March 8 on the occasion of International Women's Day.


"The government have declared Special Casual Leave on March 8 as it is being celebrated as "International Women's Day," to all the women employees in the state" the Government Order reads.


The General Administration department issued an order in this regard on Monday signed by Telangana Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari. The order has requested all concerned to take necessary action accordingly.


The Telangana government also declared that a medical camp and cancer screening programme will be held by the Prathima Foundation in Enugal village in Warangal district on the occasion of International Women’s Day.Telangana municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao and Panchayat Raj minister E Dayakar Rao will inaugurate the programme where the distribution of sarees among women will also be taken up.


On Wednesday, Minister KT Rama Rao will attend several inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies in Thorrur, Palakurthi Assembly constituency, as well as address a large public meeting.


International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year around the globe to to honour the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It serves as a day to promote women's rights and empowerment and to increase awareness of the challenges women still encounter in their pursuit of gender equality. 


Every year International Women’s Day is driven by a theme about women. This year, the United Nations declared the theme of International Women’s Day is ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.’
