After Landing At Rabri Devi's Home, CBI To Question Lalu Prasad Yadav In Land-For-Jobs Case

The chargesheet against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti, and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam was filed in October of last year by the CBI.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to question former Bihar Chief Minister and Union Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav regarding the land-for-jobs case, said official, reported news agency ANI. Additionally, the CBI claims to have sent Yadav a notice a few days ago. "A few days ago, CBI had served notice to former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav in connection with the land-for-job case. CBI is likely to question Lalu Yadav soon," a CBI official told ANI on Monday. 

A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday morning reached former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi's residence in connection with land-for-jobs scam. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rabri's son Tejashwi Yadav was also present when the federal probe agency's team reached the former Bihar CM's residence. 

Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Misa Bharti were issued summons by the Rouse Avenue court. Based on CBI's chargesheet, the court had asked them to appear on March 15.

Meanwhile, Rabri Devi reacted to CBI's visit to her residence in Patna and said, "They will bother us thousand times but we will stand."

Land For Job Scam

The chargesheet against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti, and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam was filed in October of last year by the CBI.

According to the chargesheet, the investigation revealed that the accused engaged individuals as substitutes in lieu of land either in their name or in the names of their close relatives in coercion with the then-GM Central Railways and CPO, Central Railways.

This land was purchased for significantly less than the market rate and the current circle rate. According to the CBI statement, candidates were also accused of using fake TCs and submitting fake attested documents to the Ministry of Railways.

During Lalu Yadav's tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, the alleged scam is said to have taken place. The chargesheet also includes the name of the then-Railway General Manager, in addition to the chief of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

According to the CBI, the investigation had revealed that the candidates had been considered for their engagement without the need for substitutes, that there was no urgency for their appointment, which was one of the main criteria for the engagement of substitutes, and that they took on their responsibilities much later after their appointment was approved, and that they were then regularized.

According to the CBI, candidates were also considered and appointed to positions requiring an inferior or lower medical category because, in the majority of cases, they joined their jobs in their respective divisions at a later date, defeating the purpose of substitute appointments. In other instances, candidates were unable to pass their medical examinations in the required category to which their engagement was made.

In response to the CBI's chargesheet, the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi issued summons on February 27 against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, and 14 others in connection with an alleged land-for-job scam.

CBI At Rabri Devi Home Because Of Family’s Strong Opposition To BJP: Tejashwi

Tejashwi Yadav said that his family's "relentless opposition to the ruling BJP at the Centre" was the reason the CBI team visited the residence of his mother, former CM Rabri Devi.

He also said that his father, Lalu Prasad, who was named in the land for jobs case, had "no powers" to give people jobs in exchange for favors.

"It is an open secret that probe agencies are acting against political opponents of the BJP and helping those who agree to align with that party. Examples of Ajit Pawar in Maharashtra and Mukul Roy in West Bengal are proof,” the RJD leader told reporters in front of the Bihar assembly.

However, he declined to respond to inquiries regarding the "timing" of the most recent CBI action, which comes shortly after Yadav signed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi protesting the arrest of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
