Telangana: BJP’s Raja Singh Claims 3-Day 'House Arrest' After Police Stop Him From Visiting Medak Amid Communal Tensions

BJP MLA T Raja Singh was arrested at Shamshabad Airport for trying to visit Medak, where communal tensions have erupted over alleged cattle transportation and slaughter.

BJP MLA T Raja Singh was arrested at Shamshabad Airport while attempting to visit Medak, where communal tensions have erupted over alleged cattle transportation and slaughter. The Shamshabad Airport Police confirmed, "We have done a preventive arrest at Shamshabad Airport. He wanted to go to Medak but we dropped him off at his house", news agency ANI reported.

Raja Singh blamed the Medak Police for the deteriorated law and order situation in the area citing alleged inaction over complaints of cow vigilantes.

Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, "Yesterday, a call was received from cow vigilantes from Medak PS area that 100 cows were tied up at the backside of a 'Kalyana Mandapam'. They (cow vigilantes) went to the police station but police did not take any action. Then another call was received that around 70 calves were also tied up. A call was made to the police station but police asked who they were and threatened to take action against the vigilantes. So they got angry and they directly went to the place where cows and calves were tied up."

"Butchers attacked the cow vigilantes when they reached there and a member Arun Raj was attacked with a knife who is under treatment now," he claimed.

Singh further claimed that he was put under "house arrest", "I request police to release those cows and calves and take action against the people behind this... I was taken into custody from the airport... Police are saying that I will be under house arrest for 3 days... Congress' 'gundaraj' is going on in Telangana."

On X, Singh shared that he met injured BJP workers at the hospital to inquire about their condition and asked the police to take immediate action against the attackers.

Section 144 In Telangana's Medak After Communal Clash, 13 Arrested

The incident led to clashes between two communities in Medak town, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals. Authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC to maintain peace. According to police, the clash erupted over alleged transportation of cows for slaughter ahead of the Bakrid festival, which led to stone-pelting and damage to public property. A senior police official informed  news agency PTI, "The situation has been brought under control and remains peaceful. Additional personnel were deployed, and the situation was brought under control in the town."

The police had to resort to a lathi-charge to disperse the rioters after some shops and business establishments were vandalised, and a hospital was attacked where injured individuals were being treated. "At least seven people from both communities were injured during the clashes," the official added.

In response to the incident, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao remarked on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “Telangana was peaceful sans any communal violence for the last 9.5 years with KCR Garu at the helm of affairs. And now in the Congress Government, neither is there any Law nor any Order. Truly shameful that even a peaceful town like Medak which never had any communal activity in the past has now become a mess.”

The police have moved the cattle, deemed "unfit" for slaughter, to an animal shelter and are investigating the incident further. A peace committee meeting was held to ensure that communal harmony is restored in Medak.
