Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar was arrested by the state police Sunday evening as the leader staged a 10-hour protest 'Jagarana Deeskha' in Karimnagar, demanding to revoke the Government Order (GO) 317 introduced by the ruling TRS on December 6, 2021.

The police were accused of using brute force while making the arrest, with a video of the action being widely shared by BJP leaders and supporters.

According to an ABP Desam report, BJP leaders condemned Sanjay and other party functionaries' arrest and alleged that the TRS is autocratic. Meanwhile, Telangana Minister for BC Welfare, Food & Civil Supplied, and Consumer Affairs Gangula Kamalakar claimed that the protests carried out by the state BJP president breached Covid guidelines imposed by the Centre.

Meanwhile, BJP national president JP Nadda slammed the TRS government for arresting Bandi Sanjay. While narrating the whole situation, Nadda said, "This is a murder of democracy when state BJP president Mr Sanjay was peacefully protesting in his office while following all Covid protocols, police showed their brute force and arrested him."

"This action by the state government is unacceptable and we will take all legal as well as democratic courses against the state government. TRS government has gone mad after BJP's win in the recent by-election in Huzurabad. This fight of teachers won't go in vain and we will take it further," he added.

The party workers raised slogans against the ruling TRS and questioned the "double standards" displayed by the KCR government as they allowed the TRS meetings held recently. "If there is a Covid surge how did they allow KTR's public meeting in Telangana," the BJP leader was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.

On Sunday, Sanjay Kumar and other party leaders took out a rally and staged protest in solidarity with agitated state government employees and teachers against GO 317, pertaining to Telangana government jobs.

Through GO 317, the government has introduced a zonal system for the distribution of jobs for state government employees. As per the GO, the decision of jobs and transfer for the district cadres lies with the district collectors and the respective heads of departments.
