Telangana: 31 Students Of Govt-Run Residential School Fall Ill After Dinner, Food Poisoning Suspected

In a case of suspected food poisoning, 31 students of Kagaznagar Minority Residential School in Kumurambheem-Asifabad district, were admitted to a nearby hospital after complaining of vomiting and nausea on Monday evening. Learning about the incident the local police shifted ten sick students to a local private hospital in their vehicle for treatment.

The children were reportedly discharged from the hospital later.

The DMHO claimed that the staff didn't wash rice before cooking. "Detailed inquiry ordered and probe on. Initially, it seems due to staff shortage, they didn’t wash rice before cooking," DMHO said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

It was also reported that the school principal refused to make comments on the matter and also prevented the media from entering the hostel. Students alleged that for the last three days they were being served substandard food.  

For the past two months in Telangana, with several food poisoning incidents at government-run schools/hostel has been reported, the opposition has been criticising the ruling TRS for the bad maintenance of government hotels.

The opposition is demanding that the government should take due care in this matter and provide quality meals to the students as per the menu and provide better medical facilities for the students.
