Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday accused the ruling BRS government in Telangana of not keeping its promises made to the people. Addressing the 'Yuva Sangharshana Sabha' in Hyderabad, she attacked the K Chandrashekar Rao-led government for failing to fulfill poll promises and the dreams of Telangana martyrs.

The Telangana Congress organised the public meeting at Saroornagar Stadium, focusing on the problems of youth and the unemployed.

Priyanka Gandhi urged people to vote for the Congress in the upcoming elections. She said her mother and former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi granted statehood to Telangana without worrying about the political damage to the party. The Congress leader said if the party failed to deliver on the promises it made, people could hold the party accountable and remove it from power after five years.

Priyanka Gandhi appealed to people to become politically conscious and choose a party that can take the state forward and give them a secure future.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Priyanka Gandhi said the state of Telangana became a reality not because of any one leader but because of the movement of all sons and daughters of Telangana and hundreds of martyrs who laid down their lives.

She said those who sacrificed their lives for Telangana wanted jobs for the youth, rights for future generations, remunerative prices for farmers, and the development of all districts at par with Hyderabad.

She said the KCR government failed to fulfill its promise of jobs for every house, an unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000, and filling 2 lakh vacancies.

She said three farmers end their lives in Telangana every day and claimed that 8,000 farmers committed suicide in the last nine years. She said 2.5 lakh farmers still have a debt burden of Rs 1.5 lakh each.

Priyanka Gandhi issued a Hyderabad Youth Declaration under which Congress promised Rs 4,000 as an unemployment allowance. Priyanka Gandhi assured the youth that unlike the BRS, which did not fulfill the promise of a Rs 3,000 unemployment allowance, the Congress will keep its promise.

The Congress also promised to fill 2 lakh vacancies in government departments, an annual job calendar and a government job each, and a pension for the families of Telangana martyrs.
