In a bid to cater to the needs of young users globally, Google is set to transform its search engine into a more visually appealing, bite-sized, personalised, and human experience. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the company plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) conversations, short videos, and social media posts into its search results.
Recognising the changing landscape of information access on the internet, which includes the emergence of AI bots like ChatGPT, Google aims to move away from its traditional format, commonly known as the "10 blue links." Citing insider sources and company documents, the WSG highlights Google's intention to create a search engine that resonates with younger users, incorporating human voices and supporting content creators, similar to its historical approach to websites.
The anticipation builds as Google's annual I/O developer conference approaches. The company is expected to unveil new features that enable users to engage in conversations with an AI program, an endeavour internally referred to as "Magi".

Traditionally, Google, an Alphabet subsidiary, has made minimal alterations to the appearance and functionality of its search engine. However, this is changing in response to the rapid rise of AI chatbots and short-video applications like TikTok, which have captivated the younger demographic.
According to internal reference documents outlining Google's strategy for search engine enhancements this year, the company intends to prioritise addressing queries that cannot be easily resolved through conventional web results. As per the WSJ report, Google search visitors might encounter prompts for follow-up questions or visual content, such as TikTok videos, as they seek information.

Although Google has already started integrating online forum posts and short videos into search results, it plans to further emphasise such content in the future. Discussions among Google executives have reportedly highlighted the plateauing number of active websites in recent years. Internet users increasingly rely on alternative applications to find information ranging from popular local restaurants to productivity tips.
As the digital landscape evolves, Google recognises the necessity of adapting its search engine to meet the changing needs of users, particularly the younger generation. By incorporating AI conversations, short videos, and social media posts, Google aims to create a more visually engaging, easily digestible, personalised, and human search experience.
