KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), passionately spoke out against the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha seats based on population after 2026, deeming it a grave injustice to the southern states. KTR urged leaders and citizens from all Southern states to unite across political boundaries and raise their voices collectively against this perceived inequality.
Expressing concern, KTR emphasized that a population-based delimitation would disproportionately affect the southern states, which have diligently managed their populations by aligning with progressive policies of the central government. Reports have indicated that while the southern states would witness a decline in their Lok Sabha seat allocation, the northern states, which have struggled with population control, would experience a substantial increase.
KTR voiced his deep-seated belief that such an outcome would be unfair and distressing for the southern states. He argued that Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana—states that have successfully implemented population control measures—are being unjustly penalized for their progressive policies.
Highlighting the remarkable achievements of the southern states in population control and human development, KTR pointed out that despite constituting only 18 per cent of India's population, they contribute a significant 35 per cent to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
KTR firmly asserted that the southern states, which play a pivotal role in national economic development and the progress of the country, must not be undermined by an inadequate Lok Sabha delimitation process. He emphasized the urgent need to acknowledge the grievances of the southern states, which face severe injustice despite their forward-thinking policies that benefit the nation.
