'Might Join BRS': KT Rama Rao Meets Ex-Telangana Congress Chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah Who Quit Party

Former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah is also likely to meet CM KCR on Saturday, said BRS leader KT Rama Rao.

Lakshmaiah has resigned, posing a setback to Congress who are preparing to announce their candidate list for the November 30 assembly elections.

A day after the former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah quit Congress, Telangana CM KCR’s son Rama Rao met and invited him to join BRS on Saturday. KT Rama Rao hinted that Ponnala might join BRS on October 16 in a public meeting at Jangaon. On Friday, former PCC President Lakshmaiah quit citing the "unjust environment" in the party. He served as the first PCC President of Telangana state. 

Talking to reporters, Telangana Minister and BRS leader KT Rama Rao said, "We invite Ponnala Lakshmaiah to BRS. We will give him a suitable position in the party. He will meet the CM tomorrow. He might join BRS in a public meeting to be held at Jangaon on 16th October."

However, it is yet to be clear on what transpired between the two leaders. 

 

According to his letter, Lakshmaiah alleged that a group of 50 leaders from the backward classes (BC) in Telangana went to Delhi to request prioritization for BCs, but they were denied even a meeting with AICC leaders. This is an embarrassing situation for the state, which prides itself on self-respect, he said.

 

 

In the letter, he also mentioned about BRS. He said, "In contrast, the ruling BRS party recognizes even small BC laborers and grants them MP."
