Former Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy resigned from the BJP and rejoined the Congress in the poll-bound Telangana on Wednesday. In a statement, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy said BJP failed to emerge as an alternative to BRS and it failed to act against CM Chandrasekhar Rao's corrupt government.

Taking to X, Reddy said, "My decision is for people. Hoping that my decision to join Congress will be blessed by all my workers and fans."

Rajagopal Reddy reportedly intends to run against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Gajwel, in addition to his previous constituency of Munugode, which he won as a Congress candidate in the 2018 elections. In August 2022, he resigned from Congress and as a legislator, resulting in a by-election in the Munugode Assembly constituency, reported The Hindu.

In the same month, Reddy became a part of the BJP, participated in a by-election, and was defeated by BRS candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy.

Recently, Reddy was reportedly approached by the Congress high command to return to his parent party, and he agreed to the proposal. As anticipated, the announcement of his resignation from the BJP was made on Wednesday morning. The Congress is currently withholding the announcement of its candidates for the Munugode and Gajwel constituencies.

This development is viewed as a significant blow to the saffron party, currently struggling due to a string of political missteps. Simultaneously, the Congress party in Telangana will greatly benefit since the national party is set to challenge the ruling pink party's run for a third term.
