The scheme was launched to improve the nutritional status of school-age children in the state. The nutritional deficit was a concern in the state for a long time. Through the scheme, the state also aims to reduce the workload of working mothers.

Inspired by Tamil Nadu CM's breakfast scheme, Telangana CM Rao announced it as a Dussehra gift to the students. The scheme was initially scheduled to be launched on October 24 but the government started on Friday (Oct 6).

Earlier, a team of IAS officers from Telangana visited Tamil Nadu to examine the CM breakfast scheme implemented in the state. Based on the visit, the team submitted a report to the government.

Stating that the scheme was implemented only for primary school students in Tamil Nadu, KCR said that the government was taking steps to help children focus on their studies better and it will also ensure that students do not attend school with empty stomachs since their parents especially farmers and farm workers have to leave early for work.
