Shubman Gill down with dengue: Just two days before their campaign's official start in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 tournament, hosts India were handed a massive concern. Team India's in-form opener Shubman Gill has reportedly tested positive for dengue and is most likely to miss Sunday's (October 8) blockbuster India vs Australia ODI World Cup 2023 match at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.

As per a PTI report, Shubman Gill has been unwell and suffering from dengue fever. The talented youngster's absence will certainly impact India's opening combination and batting order in their upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 match against five-time winners Australia. We'll have to wait for official updates from BCCI to know the extent of Shubman's illness and whether he will be available for Sunday's IND-AUS game or not.

"Shubhman has had high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday and a call will be taken on his participation in opening game," a BCCI source privy to team developments told PTI.

Shubman Gill recently has been India's most successful batsman in ODI cricket. It is also being reported that the star player will undergo a dengue test on Friday after which a final decision on his availability for India vs Australia ODI World Cup 2023 match will be taken by the team management.

If Gill gets ruled out of Sunday's IND vs AUS ODI World Cup 2023 match, then most likely either Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul will get picked as Rohit Sharma's opening partner.

The PTI report suggests that Gill could well miss a couple of games. Physical recovery of dengue patients vary and it normally takes around 7-10 days to be up and match ready.

"Let's not jump the gun. If it's normal viral fever, he could play on antibiotics but it's completely the medical team's call," the source told PTI.
