As part of 'Chalo Medigadda', Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders left for Medigadda barrage to counter the "propaganda" by Congress government against Kaleshwaram project. Except for BRS President and ex-Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, all principal leaders of the party, including MLAs, MLCs, and MPs, departed from Telangana Bhavan, the party's head office in Hyderabad, for Medigadda.

Under the guidance of BRS Working President KT Rama Rao, the delegation embarked on their journey to Medigadda in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district via buses.

In October last year, some barrage piers submerged leading the Central Government to dispatch a team from National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). The incident escalated into a political issue with both Congress and BJP criticising the BRS government. They argued that the piers' sinking and the flaws in design and construction highlighted in NDSA's report confirmed their accusations of corruption in the project.

Following its electoral victory in December, the Congress party initiated a judicial investigation and a Vigilance Department inquiry into Medigadda project.

On February 13, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Congress ministers and MLAs, as well as members from AIMIM and CPI, inspected the barrage. He had extended an invitation to all parties for the visit, but the BRS and BJP chose not to participate.

Nonetheless, the BRS refuted the Congress's allegations accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign against the prior administration.

Before setting off for Medigadda, KT Rama Rao emphasised that the purpose of their trip was to inform the people about the Kaleshwaram project's advantages and to urge the government to promptly conduct repairs to prevent agricultural losses.

“I think it is a political gimmick. There has been a criminal conspiracy in shifting the barrage to Medigadda. You escalate the cost from Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 1.5 lakh crore, and then it is such poor quality construction that the barrage collapses,” said Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy.
