A worker at a petrol pump died and another was injured after they were allegedly attacked by three youths near Narsingi on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Monday midnight.

Police said the trio had come in a car to the petrol pump station at Narsingi for fuel. The staff told them that the petrol bunk had closed for the day. The youths, identified as Narender, Mallesh, and Anup of Janwada village, however, requested them to fill the tank as they had to go a long distance and their fuel was almost nil. The workers relented and filled the tank.

One of the youths gave his credit card at the time of bill payment. The cashier told them that they don't have a swipe machine and asked them to pay in cash. This resulted in heated argument and the youth attacked the cashier.

Noticing the commotion, Sanjay, one of the pump employees, intervened and tried to stop them. Enraged over this, the youth punched him on his head and Sanjay collapsed. Sanjay died before he could be admitted to the hospital. The attackers escaped in the car.

"A car had come in the night and demanded to be filled with petrol. We asked them for money, but they demanded to fill the tank first. The three people in the car, who belonged to Hyderabad's Janwada, were drunk. A person in the car came and hit Sanjay (a worker) and he fell down. I tried to lift him up and called up my boss and shifted him to the hospital where he was declared dead," a co-worker of the deceased and the witness to the incident said, as quoted by ANI.

The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera. Police have launched a search operation for the three youths.
