A student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, died by suicide in her hostel room allegedly due to mental stress. This is the second suicide of an IIT-Hyderabad student within a month.
According to an IANS report, Mamitha Nayak, a 21-year-old student from Odisha, was part of the M.Tech first year batch. On Monday night, her classmates found her hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room. They immediately alerted the hostel authorities, who then informed the Sangareddy rural police. Mamitha's body was then sent for an autopsy.
After investigation, police found a suicide letter in her room in which she wrote that no one was responsible for her death. In the note, she mentioned about "some financial problem in the family" and reportedly took the extreme step as she was depressed about it, PTI reported.
A case has been resgistered over the incident. IIT Hyderabad is situated in the Kandi area of Sangareddy district, near Hyderabad.
