The Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has invited global tenders for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the 31 km Hyderabad Airport Metro project, which is proposed to connect Mindspace Junction near the Raidurg metro station and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.

The managing director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML) NVS Reddy said that it was a comprehensive open tender with an estimated contract value of Rs 5,688 crore for the design and construction of all the civil structures, including elevated viaduct, underground structures, stations, track works, electrical and mechanical works, supply and commissioning of rolling stock (train sets), electric traction and power supply, signalling, telecommunications and train control systems, automatic fare collection (AFC) gates etc.

Reddy explained that although the project's estimated cost was Rs 6,250 crore, the project tender value of Rs 5,688 crore excludes several things that are under the purview of the government or the HAML. "For example, items such as the cost of the general contractor (GC), contingencies, multi-modal integration, etc. are part of the total project cost but not included in the tender application," he said.

Reddy stated that most of the preliminary works, like survey, peg marking, alignment fixation, etc., were completed, and soil testing was in full swing.

He said, according to the updated alignment fixation and survey, the 31-kilometre corridor between the Airport terminal station and the Raidurg metro station would now have an elevated portion of 29.3 km and an underground portion of 1.7 km.

The route will have nine stations, including one underground metro station, adjacent to the airport terminal.

Because of the large-scale development of commercial and residential buildings along the airport metro line and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's vision of providing cost-effective housing on the outskirts and the reverse commute to workplaces in the city by the airport metro line, provision has also been made for the construction of four additional stations in the future, he added.

The last date for bid submission is July 5 this year, and the voluminous tender documents will be uploaded on the Telangana government's e-portal, Reddy said.
