X, formerly known as Twitter, has now introduced the capability for non-paying users on both Android and iOS platforms to make audio and video calls. Initially launched in 2023 for iPhone users with a Premium subscription and later extended to Android users, this feature is now being rolled out to all users, as detailed on the company's official support page.
X’s chief, Elon Musk, earlier confirmed that “As soon as we are confident that it is robust, A/V calling will roll out widely to X users.”
In January 2024, Elon Musk confirmed the expansion of the calling feature to all users, regardless of their subscription status. The phased rollout of this capability is now underway. The calling feature is integrated into the messages section on X, allowing users to manage who can initiate calls, adding an extra layer of privacy.

By default, the calling feature is restricted to followers, with the option to set it to verified users or everyone. Additionally, users can enhance call privacy by hiding their IP address. To initiate a call with a user, it's necessary to have sent at least one message.
