Giant, Flashy Twitter's 'X' Taken Down From San Francisco Roof After Multiple Complaints

The bright, flashy 'X' of Twitter has been taken down from the San Francisco office after several complaints from neighbours.

The giant, glowing ‘X’ that was put atop the San Franciso office of Elon Musk’s  ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, has been removed after people complained about its intrusive lights, reported Reuters. It added that the city building department received around 24 complaints after the big X was erected on the roof of the company's downtown San Francisco headquarters. "This morning, building inspectors observed the structure being dismantled," a spokesperson from the city Department of Building Inspection said, as quoted by Reuters.

"The property owner will be assessed fees for the unpermitted installation of the illuminated structure," he added.

The decision of putting the flashy X on top of the office sparked outrage among residents, who complained about the invasive lights. Because of the sign's excessive brightness, some neighbours have objected.

The move came after Musk, the mysterious billionaire who bought the business in October for $44 billion, said in a statement that the newly renamed company will remain in San Francisco despite the city's recent "doom spiral, with one company after another left or leaving."

Many people on Twitter were outraged when they saw videos of the enormous 'X' lighting and strobing. One neighbor posted a video of the brilliant light with the caption, ''Imagine no more. This is my life right now.'' Another claimed: "X logo light at the old Twitter headquarters is bright as hell."

Patricia Wallinga, who lives directly across the street from the headquarters, told CBS News that it was "a danger" and "a clown show."

''I thought it was lightning, and I was very confused. I went to my window, I looked around, I didn't see anything. I thought it was maybe a police siren,'' she said.
