WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will enable users to engage in real-time voice conversations with the platform's chatbot, according to WABetaInfo. The company is also said to be planning to introduce additional features to enhance the functionality of Meta's artificial intelligence (AI) voice capabilities. The WABetaInfo report indicates that the new Meta AI voice chat mode is currently in development and has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 24.16.10.70. Users will be able to select the Meta AI voice from a set of default options to respond to their queries.

What To Expect From WhatsApp Meta AI

However, the voice chat mode will not be enabled by default, and users will have the ability to stop the voice conversation at any time. Additionally, users will receive a privacy indicator on iOS, which will inform them when their microphone is in use, allowing them to confirm that Meta AI has stopped listening to their query.

Furthermore, WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to manage Meta AI's voice and provide them with an interactive experience. Specifically, users will reportedly be able to turn on captions and transcripts for Meta AI, which will convert speech to text during voice conversations with the AI chatbot.

Additionally, users will be given the option to configure Meta AI's voice output between two modes: Brief and Full. The Full mode will enable Meta AI to generate detailed and comprehensive answers in response to complex queries or when detailed information is required. Conversely, the Brief mode will allow the chatbot to provide concise and to-the-point answers, which could be more suitable for users who prefer shorter interactions.

This comes days after WhatsApp reportedly started considering the adoption of a popular feature from its sister app, Instagram. This update involves implementing a double-tap reaction system, which has been widely used by Instagram users for its simplicity and efficiency. The proposed feature would allow WhatsApp users to swiftly respond to messages with a single, predefined reaction by double-tapping on the message, similar to Instagram, as spotted by WABetaInfo. This streamlined approach to interaction could significantly enhance the user experience by offering a quicker alternative to typing out responses or selecting from the current reaction menu.
