WhatsApp Services Restored After Global Outage: All You Need To Know
WhatsApp has been facing multiple outages in recent months.
WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Facebook-parent Meta, recently experienced a global outage that affected users worldwide, including in India. During the outage, some users encountered difficulties accessing WhatsApp on both mobile and desktop devices. Issues with sending and downloading media were also reported. The outage began on Monday but was resolved after some time.
DownDetector, a website that monitors outages, reported that 76 per cent of users faced problems with the website, 17 per cent experienced issues with the application, and 7 per cent encountered challenges with sending messages.
As of now, the company has not issued an official statement or provided any details regarding the cause of the outage. It remains unclear what factors led to the disruption of service.
Users took to Twitter to share their experiences and inquire about the situation and #WhatsAppDown went viral briefly.

This is not the first time WhatsApp has faced such challenges. In January of this year, a server-side issue prevented users from updating their privacy settings globally on iOS. Furthermore, in October of the previous year, a global outage occurred, affecting users in India and lasting for more than two hours.
WhatsApp has since restored its services, allowing users to resume their regular activities on the platform. As the company has not disclosed any specific reasons for the outage, users can only speculate about the underlying cause.
WhatsApp banned a record of over 74 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of April, in accordance with the new IT Rules 2021, the Meta-owned company announced on Thursday. Between April 1 and April 30, 7,452,500 WhatsApp accounts were banned and 2,469,700 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users, the company said in its monthly compliance report.
The most popular messaging platform, which has nearly 500 million users in the country, received another record 4,377 complaint reports in April in the country, and the records "actioned" were 234.
