Pegatron Halts iPhone Production At Chennai Plant


Apple iPhone maker and contract manufacturer Pegatron has temporarily paused assembly of devices after a fire incident near its factory in Chennai, news agency Reuters reported on Monday. The fire broke out on Sunday night, the news agency added. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer has called off all shifts for the day at the factory near the city of Chennai in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and is yet to inform assembly workers whether the facility will function on Tuesday, two sources were quoted as saying by Reuters.

Qualcomm To Cut Jobs Amid Weak Chip Demand: Report


Chipset-making giant Qualcomm has rubbished reports of shutting down its research and development (R&D) unit in Shanghai. However, it has confirmed that it will trim its staff strength on the back of declining smartphone demand and falling economy in China, the media has reported. According to a report by Chinese publication Yicai Global, Qualcomm is not mulling to slash large-scale jobs at its Shanghai facility, which was opened in 2010. Quualcomm's Shanghai facility employs nearly 400 people. Qualcomm's multi-million dollar R&D centre is situated in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai. It also has an R&D facility in Beijing.

Construction Of Micron's Semiconductor Plant Starts


In a bid to cut imports and meet local semiconductor requirements, US-based semiconductor manufacturer has started the construction of its $2.75 billion semiconductor testing and assembly facility in Sanand in Gujarat. Micron has asked Tata Projects to build its advanced semiconductor assembly and test factory, the media has reported. Micron has conducted a "groundbreaking ceremony" in the state of Gujarat and will invest $825 million over a period of seven years in Gujarat.

Google Pulling The Plug On Gmail's HTML Version


Google will pull the plug on the Basic HTML version of Gmail early next year. Starting in January 2024, the tech giant will discontinue the Basic HTML version of Gmail, says the company's support page. For supported browsers, Gmail will open automatically in Standard view. There is no clarity on when Google decided to shut down the Basic HTML version of Gmail, but after January 2024, Google will automatically change the Basic HTML view of Gmail to the Standard version.
