OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced the launch of its latest AI text-to-video model, Sora, which sent ripples across the Internet. The model is capable of crafting entire one-minute videos from mere text prompts. Once you try the model then it feels as if you are stepping into a world where fiction becomes visual reality, fulfilling your wildest and most improbable imaginings in a snap.

This is not new though. We have seen a number of fantasies becoming visual reality in movies be it giants roaming around to shapeshifters appearing suddenly. When Sora made its grand entrance, a lot of people were reminded of past cinematic marvels.

People connected with Bollywood and used some of the prompts which created similar or the same scenes as the movies showed earlier.

Sora Users Share Outputs

For example, a person wrote, “An Indian man grows into a huge giant at multiple locations in the world doing unhinged things.”

Floodgates opened soon after and people started sharing videos one after the other. If there's one thing that remained constant in all of them is the chorus of “Sora is amazing.”

A user shared the prompt, “a video of a girl playing basketball with a football in tennis dress on a golf course” – a classic Karishma Kapoor moment.

Notably, Sora's introduction has also made some people concerned about the power of AI. YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, said, “Every single one of these videos is AI-generated, and if this doesn’t concern you at least a little bit, nothing will."

Despite Sora’s capabilities being undeniably impressive, a degree of wariness is warranted. How easily it converts text into video could easily lead to misuse. Safe use of the model will be wise and better for everyone.
