Instagram has shown more videos than photos and this admission comes straight from Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Meta-owned Instagram. According to a Story posted by the head of Instagram, on his personal Instagram profile, he acknowledged that there are a “number of photographers who have been upset” about how the platform has been focusing on videos, the media has reported.

As per Mosseri, “photos will always be a part of the platform."

Mosseri, in the same Story mentioned that the platform “overfocused” on video in 2022. This year, Instagram will go back to balancing the amount of photos and videos shown to its users.

"We’ve since balanced, so things like how often someone likes photos versus videos and how often someone comments on photos versus videos are roughly equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced. And so, to the degree that there is more video on Instagram over time, it’s going to be because that’s what’s driving overall engagement more," Mosseri explained, says a report by Fox Business.


Meanwhile, Meta has recently announced that it is bringing further updates to its ad system, including removing gender as an option for advertisers to reach users under 18 on Facebook and Instagram. Starting next month, advertisers will only be able to use age and location to reach teens, the company recently said in a blog post.


Aiming to help its users focus and avoid distractions, Meta-owned Instagram has also launched Quiet mode. Once enabled, the Instagram Quiet mode will stop all notifications and change the account's activity status to let people know of it and automatically send an auto-reply when someone sends them a DM.
