Instagram and Facebook Messenger appear to be down for several users, who are experiencing trouble while sending messages on both the Meta-owned platforms. As per website services status tracker Downdetector, Instagram is showing heavy outages, starting from around 8pm on July 5, continuing to Wednesday morning. Several users have taken to Twitter to share their frustration in trying to send DMs to their contacts on both platforms. There has been no official communication from Meta regarding the recent outage as of yet.

On July 5, Downdetector showed a peak in Instagram outage reports from users, with over 1,280 users flagging issues with the photo- and video-sharing service at around 11:17pm. While the outage reports dipped early morning on July 6, at around 3:17am, they peaked again at around 10:17am. At the time of writing, Downdetector shows 1,150 reports on the Instagram outage. Facebook Messenger, on the other hand, also showed signs of outage late on Tuesday.

It should be noted that so far, the issue appears to be only restricted to the platforms' messaging features, as all the other features of the apps seem to be working fine, ABP Live could verify independently. Given the fact that both Instagram and Facebook Messenger are owned by Meta (formerly known as Facebook), it could be possible that the messaging issue on both Instagram and Facebook Messenger should be resolved at the same time. As mentioned, there has been no official communication from Meta on the current outage.
