Google Podcasts App To Shut Down On June 23: Step-By-Step Guide For Migration To YouTube Music
To facilitate this transition, Google has introduced a migration tool, allowing users to smoothly transfer their podcast subscriptions before the discontinuation of the Podcasts app.
Google is widely known for its extensive array of apps and services which cater to different requirements, however, the tech giant has also developed a reputation of discontinuing several of its offerings unexpectedly. The latest addition to this discontinuing list of Google is the Podcasts app, as confirmed by the company itself. The Google Podcasts app is set to be discontinued on June 23. Earlier last year in a blog post, Google outlined a plan for its Podcast users to manage their subscriptions and shift to other platforms, for a seamless transition.
Users have the option to migrate their podcast subscriptions to YouTube Music, providing a convenient avenue to continue enjoying their favourite podcasts within the YouTube ecosystem. Alternatively, users can download their podcast subscription list as an OPML file, which can then be imported into a podcast app of their choice, ensuring continuity in their podcast listening experience.
To facilitate this transition, Google has introduced a migration tool, allowing users to smoothly transfer their podcast subscriptions before the discontinuation of the Podcasts app. This migration tool is accessible until July 29, providing users with ample time to make the necessary adjustments and ensure uninterrupted access to their preferred podcast content.
How To Switch From Google Podcasts To YouTube Music
- Open the Google Podcasts app on your device.
- Click on the ‘Export subscriptions’ button which will appear at the top of your screen.
- Under the ‘Export to YouTube Music’ section, click on the ‘Export’ button.
- Now, YouTube Music will be launched and it will ask you if you are ready to transfer your subscriptions to the account you have signed in to or not.
- If you are ready then hit the ‘Transfer as xyz@gmail.com‘ button and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
The tech giant said that your podcast subscriptions will be added as third-party podcasts to your YouTube Music library. If you don’t wish to use YouTube Music, then there is also an alternative of downloading your subscriptions as an OPML, which you can then use to export your podcasts to the app of your choice.
