Reliance Jio on Monday announced a partnership with chipset-making giant Qualcomm at the 45th Reliance AGM. "Today, I announce an exciting partnership with Qualcomm," Mukesh Ambani announced at the 45th AGM.

Cristiano Amon, CEO of San Diego, California-headquartered Qualcomm spoke on the collaboration between Jio and Qualcomm at the company's AGM and said: "As India celebrates 75 yrs of Independence, with Reliance Jio, we’re committed to developing the digital infrastructure that enables the success of citizens and businesses, and achieves the 'New India'."
Amon also highlighted Jio, one of the country's top telecom operator's ambitions in the 5G space and how Reliance Jio and Qualcomm worked together in the 4G era to bring some incredible results to bridge the urban-rural connectivity gap.
"Will have an even larger role in the 5G era. Great partnership," Amon noted.
At the event, Reliance Jio is likely to announce its first 5G phone which is tipped to be called the JioPhone 5G and run on Android (Go Edition). The JioPhone 5G is likely to be developed in collaboration with Google and priced under Rs 10,000.
The JioPhone 5G could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM. However, since it would be an entry-level 5G handset, it may have 32GB internal storage capacity.
In terms of imaging, the JioPhone 5G would offer a dual rear camera setup led by a 13MP primary sensor with autofocus paired with a 2MP macro sensor. Other specs of the JioPhone 5G is likely to include a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging via a a USB Type-C port charging. There may be a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.
