ColorOS update by OnePlus with three generative AI features, including an AI Summariser, an image editing tool and an article summary generator, is now rolling out for the latest OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11 models in China. While smartphone brands like Google and Samsung have already embraced generative AI in their flagship phones, OnePlus initially took a different approach with the OnePlus 12. However, this is changing as the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 in China are now gaining new generative AI capabilities through the latest ColorOS update, the media has reported.
Is is not clear whether OnePlus is going to to extend the generative AI capabilities to global versions of their flagship OnePlus devices, which operate on OxygenOS instead of ColorOS. However, given the nearly identical nature of both operating systems in every aspect, there seems to be no apparent reason why this wouldn't be possible.

A Redditor, via Mishaal Rahman, spotted that OnePlus China initiated the ColorOS update rollout for the OnePlus 11. Subsequently, it was observed that the OnePlus 12 in the same region was also receiving this update. The changelog in English, provided below, outlines the AI enhancements introduced with the OnePlus 11 update, says a report by Android Police.
Three generative AI features that the update is bringing includes an AI Summariser that autonomously creates summaries of your phone calls. OnePlus states that the AI will gather details like locations, times/dates, action items, and other crucial information from your phone conversations. The second AI feature being introduced to the OnePlus 12 and its predecessor is article summaries, claimed to be generated with a single tap by extracting key information. Although not as advanced as Google and Samsung offerings, these AI attributes serve as a noteworthy entry point for OnePlus 11 and 12 owners who may have initially felt the company lagged in AI innovations.
Another one is the image editing tool called AIGC Remover, which will allow users to eliminate objects and people from their photos. While comparable to features on the Google Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 series, the changelog specifically highlights the capability to remove items from photos, omitting any mention of video editing.
