New Delhi: Meta Platforms. Inc's head of communications, John Pinette on Friday, announced that he is leaving the company in a post to his employees reported Wall Street Journal. 


He was overseeing the company's external communications since 2019. He has been known to keep a cordial relationship with the media.

“Today will be my last day at Meta,” Pinette wrote in the post. “I know the team will continue to thrive as you do some of the most important—and most difficult—work in Communications.”


Before joining the company, Pinette led communications for Gates Ventures, the private office and innovation lab of Bill Gates, for five years, and was the head of Asia Pacific communications for Google. He also held a number of product and corporate communications leadership positions at Microsoft Corp.


According to Reuters Meta spokesperson said in an emailed statement that Chris Norton, vice president of international communications, will cover the role on an interim basis.


Hundreds of employees of Meta’s communications department and is responsible for everything from promoting the company’s products to responding to press inquiries about activity on its platforms, which are used by more than three billion people worldwide.


On October 28th, Mark Zuckerberg made a big announcement on Facebook Connect he said the company is changing its name to Meta. He said their company wants to be identified as a metaverse company. Zuckerberg revealed some important features that can be expected in the metaverse. 


The metaverse is seen as the next version of the internet, where people can experience the virtual world and interact with each other.


Zuckerberg said privacy and safety must be built into the metaverse from Day One. The main features of the metaverse will be Presence, Avatars, Home Space, Interoperability, Privacy and Safety, Virtual goods, and Natural Interfaces.
