Ever since artificial intelligence (AI) and especially generative AI came under the spotlight, with the advent of OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2022, one of the hottest debate that seems to be on everyone's mind is: Will AI take away my job? As individuals and institutions have managed to wrap their heads around the seemingly new technology and its many benefits, people are finding incredible new uses which doesn't replace humans, but rather help humans by making their lives easier - like applying for nearly 3,000 jobs without having to move a muscle!

In a recent post, a person claimed to have applied to an astounding 2,843 jobs using AI, highlighting how automation is increasingly shaping the job market. Jason Koebler, a journalist from 404 Media, reported on this unique case, where the individual used a free tool called AI Hawk to automate the entire application process. Incredibly, they managed to submit 17 job applications in just one hour, only stopping after the tool had sent out nearly 3,000 applications.

What Is AI Hawk?

AI Hawk is designed to handle the tedious and time-consuming parts of the job search. It fills out personal details, generates tailored resumes, crafts customised cover letters, and ticks all the required boxes before submitting applications on behalf of the user.

This software is part of a growing trend of AI tools being used to streamline job applications, potentially removing much of the human effort from the process.

Automation For Everyone

This case illustrates the larger shift in the hiring landscape, where automation is not only helping candidates but also being adopted by companies themselves. A significant number of businesses are turning to AI software to manage recruitment tasks.

A 2023 survey revealed that 42 per cent of companies now use AI tools to screen job applicants, and in some cases, AI is even being used to conduct initial interviews. This rise in automation has created a somewhat ironic cycle, where AI-driven tools apply for jobs, and AI systems on the other end evaluate the applications.

However, this raises important questions about the impact on traditional job seekers who still rely on the old-fashioned, manual approach to applying for jobs.

While it remains unclear how AI-generated applications will influence hiring outcomes for non-automated applicants, it’s clear that artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly prominent role in recruitment. The evolution of AI in job searching may just be the beginning of a wider transformation in the way people find and secure employment in the future.
