New Delhi: Elon Musk believes Twitter has "extraordinary potential", and the world's richest man has made it clear that he wants to change the way he thinks the social media platform functions and is perceived as.

Musk, who calls himself a "free speech absolutist", has said Twitter “undermined" democracy because it failed to "adhere to free speech principles”. He has a problem with its “top” accounts "rarely" tweeting, and has said the company will "neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form".

The Tesla CEO is now all set to own the public company and take it private, after striking a $44 billion deal to buy it.

After claiming that he will "unlock" Twitter's potential, Musk has been sharing his plans for the company.

Days after making the "best and final" offer to buy Twitter, he said he will "defeat the spam bots or die trying" and "authenticate all real humans".

Prior to that, he posted: "A social media platform’s policies are good if the most extreme 10% on left and right are equally unhappy."

Picking up from where he left off, Musk tweeted early Thursday: "For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally."

A meme he shared right after, however, appeared to take a dig at the left wing alone.

It seemed the prolific tweeter spent a lot of time Thursday on his newest acquisition, posting away his mind on a range of issues.

He hinted that the direct messages on Twitter could be spied on or hacked into, and said Twitter DMs should have "end to end encryption like Signal" to avoid this.

Sharing another "plan" for Twitter, he said: "Let’s make Twitter maximum fun!"

On Wednesday, he also took time out to reflect on Donald Trump's social media company Truth Social, and said the platform that is "beating Twitter & TikTok on the Apple Store" now exists because Twitter "censored" the former US president's "free speech".

In a lighter vein, he also said Truth Social as a name is "terrible", and that it "Should be called Trumpet instead!".

Musk had earlier, right after announcing his 9% shareholding in Twitter, conducted a poll asking if it needed an edit button.

And in another Twitter poll before that, he had sought his over 85 million followers' opinion on making Twitter algorithm "open source".

It is to be seen now as to how many of the "plans" he shared will materialise, or what changes will be actually seen on Twitter once Elon Musk formally takes over the company in the days to dome.
